North Beach’s Perfect Place For Focaccia Bread

There is a small corner bakery in North Beach that emits the most delicious aroma of homemade focaccia bread drawing in visitors each day. If you guessed Liguria Bakery, then you know of their famous bread that I am talking about.

Liguria Bakery is located at 1700 Stockton St. in North Beach. I was able to meet Mary Soracco when I walked into Liguria Bakery one weekend morning. She informed me that the bakery is family-owned and has been in business for more than 100 years. Additionally, since the bakery has been in the area so long, the family is familiar with the tightknit community in North Beach.

“Everybody knows each other,” said Soracco. “You could basically find everything you need here.”

I was astounded and impressed that the business had been open for so long. But, if you have ever visited Liguria Bakery, you would know exactly why this establishment has survived for more than a century.

The bakery specializes in focaccia bread, which is a classic Italian flatbread. There are dozens of flavors to choose from all at affordable prices. The flavors that stood out the most to were the pizza and rosemary garlic. When you order, the bread of your choice is cut into smaller pieces from a larger portion as long as forearm. Additionally, the focaccia bread sells out quickly, so if you are after a particular flavor it is best that you arrive as early as possible.

Liguria Bakery is one of those bakeries in North Beach that takes pride in the bread they serve and the customers that visit daily. The next time you are in North Beach, make sure to take a pit stop at Liguria Bakery. This is not a focaccia bread that you want to miss out on!

Liguria Bakery is open Monday – Friday at 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
