Which North Beach Pizzeria Is Your Favorite?

North Beach is often labeled as “little Italy” due to the lengthy list of Italian restaurants in the area. Although there may be many places to purchase traditional Italian pasta dishes and focaccia breads, pizza is another dominating food option in North Beach. There are dozens of pizzerias in the area, leaving many people to wonder which one is the best?

Yelp.com is a website where users can write reviews and rate anything from restaurants to stores in cities across the country. The website is also a great tool if you are in search of a new restaurant because there are reviews to read and information about the cuisine, hours, etc.

According to Yelp.com, the top three pizzerias in North Beach are:

  1. Caffé BaoNecci – 4 1/2 stars, 346 reviews
  2. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana – 4 stars, 1155 reviews
  3. Golden Boy Pizza – 4 1/2 stars, 1190 reviews

The reviews were really passionate for these three restaurants with more than 1000 being written about both Tony’s Pizza Napoletana and Golden Boy Pizza. I had the chance to dine at Tony’s Pizza Napoletana and I would say the postive online reviews matches definitely matches with the cuisine. For those who have dined at any of these three pizzerias, which would you say is the best? Leave your thoughts!

A Great Place For Quality Pizza

North Beach is home to a variety of pizzerias and Italian restaurants, but one particular restaurant that stood out to me was Tony’s Pizza Napoletana.

According to many locals, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is the place to dine at if you are looking for great pizza. I decided one weekend to visit the restaurant and see if the rumors were true.

When I first arrived at the restaurant, the line was out the door! From the amount of people standing in line and the packed restaurant inside, I could tell Tony’s is a popular stop in North Beach. It was even more amazing that the line was so long due to the fact the restaurant had only opened about 30 minutes prior.

When I first sat down, the menu had a variety of pizzas to choose from. It was overwhelming trying to choose just one because they all looked so delicious! The pizza I decided to order was the Margherita. Interestingly, it stood out to me that the Margherita pizza was the winner of the 2007 World Pizza Cup. There is even a limit to the number of orders a day which shows the immense popularity of the pizza.

When the pizza finally arrived, I was excited to dig in and find out why this pizza won a World Pizza Cup. The Margherita pizza is perfect for vegetarians since it has a mix of tomatoes, olive oil and basil. My overall review of the pizza is that it is very light yet filling and 100 percent delicious. If you don’t believe me, take a trip down to Tony’s Pizza Napoletana and check out the hype for yourself.

The owner and chef, Tony Gemignani, truly takes pride and dedication in his pizza which shows why his business is continuing to thrive in North Beach. It was amazing to see how busy the restaurnat was throughout the day with a mixture of local regulars and first time tourists.

“I thought that North Beach needed an institution for pizza and San Francisco needed a face with the pizza,” said Gemignani.

Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is definitely one of the go-to pizzerias if you are ever in the area. Don’t miss out on your chance to taste numerous award-winning pizzas in a spot unique to North Beach.
